Description

Menus and photographs of LV, Director of the Starlit Room Restaurant at the Hotel Metropole, Brighton, East Sussex, from 1961-1980. The collection consists of luncheon and dinner menus and photographs from the Starlit Room in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Biographical information

LV was born in Paris in 1920. During the Second World War he was in Germany as a forced labourer and was subsequently sent to Italy prior to re-patriation but found employment as a cook for American Army Officers. He came to Britain in 1948 with his wife, Huguette Vincent, and worked as a chef in a large house in Eaton Place in London and subsequently for Lord Burghley. He came to Brighton in 1961 and started work as the Director of the Starlit Room when it opened in that year. LV was in charge of the kitchen and restaurant and created some of the dishes.

The original copies of the two menus listed here (LIA/75/1 and LIA/75/2) have been donated to the East Sussex Record Office. Digital copies of the photos have been donated to the East Sussex Record Office and are listed here, the original photographs remain with Mrs Huguette Vincent, Louis Vincent's wife.
