Description

These letters were sent by two sisters at St Mary's Hall school in Brighton to their parents.

The letters were sent to the school's archive in 1986 by Brian Mumford, who was the executor of his sister's will. Brian Mumford and his sister were the remaining relatives of Bishop Alexander. The remainder of Bishop Alexander's papers were left to Lambeth Palace.

Biographical information

The girls are the daughters of Bishop Alexander, who became the first Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem.

Originals

Digital copies of the letters and the portrait have been donated to the East Sussex Record Office and are listed here; the original letters are part of the St Mary's Hall School archive which is still retained by the school (2008). The portrait is owned by Brian Mumford.
